Everybody - and I mean everybody and her mother - constantly blabs on about the health benefits of eating breakfast every morning. It’s not hard to believe these people. But that doesn’t mean I’ve taken the advice to heart after all these years. In fact, except for the rare occasions when I am a guest somewhere else or go out for a special “brunch,” my morning menu consists of little more than a beverage and a croissant or buttered roll. More frequently, I’ll opt for a simple large iced coffee from McDonalds. Mind you, it’s not the caffeine that I’m going for, just the cold, semi-sweet, semi-tasty beverage. I like having to pee for the next several hours.
But anyway, what are some of the health benefits I’m missing out on by not eating breakfast every morning? I’ve pulled some quotes from across the web.
- People who eat breakfast are more alert and productive at work. (Diet Hack)
- Your metabolism slows while you sleep, and it doesn't rev back up until you eat again. (kelsibrubaker’s Xanga)
- Improved concentration and performance in the classroom or the boardroom. (Broheme)
- Improves the intake of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, especially iron and vitamin C. (Personal MD)
- Skipping meals throws your blood sugar all out of whack and it sets you up to store your next meal as fat, almost guaranteed! (Info-Leeches and other E-Invertebrates)
Because it’s lame.

hey you wimp
i did this for 7 years. i think youll be ok. :)
first--i dont know how strict you want to be about this, but i guarantee that chicken flavored rice had chicken in it. also, you may want to stay away from anything jiggly or chalk-like--gelatin is probably the cause. as far as recipes go, tofu really can be great as long as you cook it with something that has lots of flavor/seasoning/sauce. if you have a pei-wei restaurant where you live, they can make anything with it, and its pretty tasty. what i used to do is just make the same old stuff i always made but leave the meat out. i wasnt that healthy, though, so i do recommend using tofu and/or taking vitamins. so, tacos, lasagna, spaghetti, cheeseburgers (at in-n-out, just asked for a grilled cheese), sandwiches, (at port of subs they have a delicious sandwich with 3 cheeses) etc. most things, you can just leave the meat out and you will hardly notice a difference.
good luck, and have fun!
this is sarah from pahrump by the way. you can talk to me on myspace if you want--i have about 4 trillion vegetarian cookbooks if you want some real recipes.
Yeah, I know about the chicken. It was an "oh crap" moment after I already started to cook it, and I figured for the first real day, I could get away with some rehydrated chicken fat, because, well, it's not MEAT meat, if you get my drift. But for the rest of the time, I'm going to try to be good about it.
Thanks for the food tips. Tofu sounds like a good direction. In fact, that's what I had today for lunch(more on that later, of course).
Man, In-n-Out...I wish I had one of those near me. It's the only downside to NYC.
*laughs*
Hi, don't mind me, I'm just a vague memory of the dreaded, evil high school, browsing around here from your bulletin on MySpace. I should be working, but instead I am commenting on your 30-day attempt at being a vegetarian. Yay for priorities! *beams*
Anyways...I never eat breakfast either. I never have time. It takes a lot to just drag myself out of bed in the morning--if I stop to eat breakfast, I'd be late for work! Waking up sooner so that I have time for breakfast? Yeah...no...I can't let go of those few extra minutes of sleep. My body's attuned to no breakfast now, unfortunately--I'm never hungry after I get up and it takes a lot for me to eat more than just a piece of toast. By lunchtime I'm starving, though!! Meh. Silly breakfast.
Hi Kevin, it's Abbey from PVHS... Yay for the no-meat endeavor! I have been vegetarian for a few years, and can suggest some meat alternatives if you are interested...
